Fire Prevention: A Key Issue in Our District and County

Hey Neighbors,

This weekend I attended two important events in our area: The WUI Housing and Habitat Community Resource Fair in Boulder Creek and the Firewise Festival at Roaring Camp. It was wonderful to see the organizers' efforts and how well-attended and engaged the community was in receiving this critical information.

I have a deep personal commitment to supporting such endeavors as someone who lost their home in the CZU Fire and has been one of the lucky few able to traverse the planning department and rebuild. Losing ones home is not something I would wish on anyone, and as your next supervisor, I will do everything I can to elevate measures to help protect our communities from wildfires.

As a board member of the Fire Safe Council of Santa Cruz County, I am already immersed in these matters. From understanding the process of grant obtainment to the various programs within our community, my work with the Fire Safe Council has connected me to local groups and nonprofits doing the hard work to make our community safer.

Since the inception of my campaign, I have consistently spoken about fire prevention and recovery. We have learned, as insurance issues have affected our entire community, that these concerns impact all of us, not just those who lost homes. My goal is to use my experiences as a fire survivor, rebuild success story, and Fire Safe Council Board Member to advocate for our district and county. Making our area more fire-resilient helps protect our invaluable infrastructure, including water and roads, encourages insurance companies to write policies here, saves money and safeguards the homes of our families and neighbors.

Here is an endorsement from a local firefighter before the primary that I am deeply proud of:

“There is a primary election coming up on March 5th, and this is who I'm supporting for our Fifth District Supervisor.

Christopher got into this race because he and his family experienced first hand the crushing insult-to-injury that a mostly indifferent bureaucracy inflicted onto CZU fire survivors just trying to rebuild their lives.

And even before he announced his candidacy, Christopher was meeting with officials from our local fire districts to understand their needs, and what we can do better next time.

As a retired firefighter whose home barely survived CZU, this matters to me. A lot. It should matter to you too.

Most importantly: It's very clear to me that Christopher's motivation is building a better future for our community. Period. He isn't using this race as political stepping-stone, nor does his current business have anything to gain by him being Supervisor. He is in this for right reasons, and he's in it for the long-haul. On March 5th join me in supporting Christopher Bradford for Fifth District Supervisor."

-Daniel DeLong, Retired Firefighter and Ben Lomond Resident

As your potential Fifth District Supervisor, I commit to leveraging my experiences and connections to enhance our community's fire resilience and overall safety. Together, we can build a stronger, more prepared fifth district and Santa Cruz County.

In community, always.

Christopher
